321 Water – Bottled water takes the plunge

The 321 Water bottle is a water purifier in a bottle. Just add your yucky, nasty tap water into the top, and push the very-stylish plunger down. The water is forced through an activated carbon filter, removing chlorine and nasty flavours and the wholesome water is stored in the bottle ready to drink. The whole thing is designed as an alternative to bottled water and as such the bottle has a screw top and is designed to fit into car cup holders and handbags.

The water filter is good for 100 uses and makes 50 litres of water, but how you’re supposed to keep track of that I’m not sure. The bottle is dishwasher safe, BPA free, and all the parts can be replaced easily and recycled at the end of life. The only catch is they’re not making it.

The 321 Water bottle has just won a People’s Choice Award on The New Inventors, an Australia TV show helping new products get off the ground. If you like the product you can preorder one for AU$32.10 from the website, they need 10,000 orders to kick off manufacturing. It’s Australia-only the moment but international customers can register their interest. Price when released will be AU$39 and AU$12.50 for 3 new filters.

Why buy water when you can bottle your own? All you need to do is pop your beautifully designed 321 Water bottle into your handbag, backpack or car cup holder when you leave the house then fill it from the nearest tap when you feel thirsty.
