3D Converter converts your boring old HD television to glorious 3D…maybe

So you’ve got yourself a nice flat screen HD television and you’re enjoying your high definition sports and movies. But there’s a nagging feeling in your breast. Should you keep up with the times and upgrade your set to a brand new, but expensive, 3D television and take advantage of the new 3D content being beamed to your location right now? Well there is apparently an alternative.

This 3D Converter promises to convert your existing television programs into full 3D, using some clever tech trickery and blue/amber glasses. You plug one end of the small unit into your television using HDMI and the other end into your satellite receiver or cable box if you have them. Switch on and select the type and strength of 3D effect you want and  tune to a standard program.

The result should be you see the program in 3D through the glasses. Unfortunately under testing the results are not what you might call stellar. While the device does seem to do some 3D interpolation to the on-screen TV display, the result when you put on the glasses is more like watching a dimly lit movie in a run-down theater. The colours fade away, there is visible distortion on-screen and the whole experience is more headache inducing than pleasurable.

We’re sure the idea has potential, but it looks like it definitely needs more work, unless we were doing it all wrong. Anyway the product is well packaged, comes with two sets of glasses, remote control and a power brick and costs $69.00. It’s compatible with Blu-Ray players, satellite and cable, PCs and laptops.
