3Dash – this 3D pen draws in all the colors of the wind with one filament

3D pens are a great deal of fun, all the joy of 3D creation, none of the waiting for a printer to spit out your idea. Although they can take some getting used to, once you’ve got the technique down, you’re in for a world of creation. The 3Dash adds a new dimension by skipping the need for different filament colors, instead, it mixes the colors for you.

This pen is a color scanner and pen in one. Scan your color and it mixes ink with your filament to give you exactly what shade you were looking for. It works with an app which is likely how you control your color choices. Ideally this would allow for smoother transitions between colors while you’re creating.

Still, there’s no information on the cost of ink for these things and knowing how pricy ink can be, it stands to reason that keeping this little gadget working at full capacity would be a costly endeavor. If you’re interested, it’s currently for pre-order and will ship in the middle of the year. The 3Dash is $199.
