4 Ways to Turn Linux into Windows XP – familiarity breeds contentment?

So there’s this whole eco-system of folk trying to make Linux look and feel like Windows XP. It’s so quaint and kind of clever I guess. Combine the robustness and open source vitality of Linux with the familiarity of the most popular version of Windows ever, and you should be onto a golden ticket. Maybe.

TrustVerse Linux XP. A Windows XP look and feel, the mainstream open source applications and free updates. There’s even a Windows Explorer clone for all your file handling loveliness. Brave Russians.

YLMF OS. Ubuntu, clothed in a classic Windows skin, adorned with OpenOffice and the ability to run Windows apps using Wine. Needs a mere 128 MB of RAM to run in. Clever Chinese.

BRLix Linux. Debian Linux distro layered with some Vista or XP interface juice. Probably a little too geeky for the general Joe Public, but still very interesting. Resourceful Brazilians.

XPGnome. Got Ubuntu Linux already installed? Then use this theme script to turn the interface into a beautifully accurate Windows XP clone in seconds. You get a start button and everything. Awesome. Artful geek.

  • I don’t get it. Is this because of stockholm syndrom?

    • Keep Grannie Happy Syndrome?

  • No, it is to make LINUX easier for Stupid People. IE; General Puplic

  • still the stockholm syndrome reference was funny

  • Linux users are arrogant as it seems. The comment for example. This will help bring more users to use it but when rude people attack them then no one will. Linux just isn't good for many reasons and when they get it then they will get people to use it when they fix the many BIG problems.
They just don't get it and maybe they never will. Until then Linux is dead.
