5 Inch Slate Touch Phone – say hello to the £40 phablet

Well well well, things are starting to move quite quickly here in tech tornado land. No sooner has the world got used to the word phablet (and if you’re uncertain what it means, think of a mashup between phone and tablet) than the market is awash with them.

This 5 Inch Slate Touch Phone is a bare bones palm sized cell phone which features a 5 inch resistive touchscreen, dual cameras (2 and 5 megapixels), WiFi and Bluetooth and dual SIMs. Although it also sports a TV and media player, it can’t rightly be called a smartphone since there are no apps, and in fact no 3G, just plain old GPRS.

But we urge you to remember the price, good people!

The phablet comes with 2 x 1200 mAh batteries, charger block, earphones, USB cable and an interface which looks very similar to an Android system, although that’s not specified in the blurb. And unfortunately the TV functionality is rooted firmly in the analog camp. Um…but did we mention the price?

To top it all, you get GPS (with A-GPS), and FM radio built in, a 3.5mm headphone socket and a bunch of games on board. It supports microSD cards up to 8GB and includes a flashlight function, calculator, alarm clock and supports 7 languages. For £40.87. Ah yes we did mention the price.
