The USB Smart Privacy Mouse comes with a secret sauce button which you can configure to jump to a work friendly screen in an instant. You know, just in case you’re browsing stuff at work you shouldn’t, and the boss wanders by to ask about the missing TPS Report? $19.99.
This button works – If you use it as an ordinary mouse without installing the driver, it is a short-cut key performs as the short-cut key at your right of your windows tool bar – If you’ve installed its driver and still have not yet configure it, the it works as the short cut ket “ALT + Tab”, helps you jump from Windows to windows – If you’ve installed its driver and configured it (see picture 2), then once you press the button, you can conceal any and all programs in windows and jump to your dedicated windows (as shown in picture). It might save your job…
While this is pretty convenient, with a little more effort, you can do this with any hardware using a freeware program called AutoHotKey. You can set up scripts to do anything you want on any key sequence or mouse button click. I set up a small script that looks and minimizes Firefox, and it would just be an extra few lines to have it look for minimize (or close) certain windows, then look for and activate something else. I happen to have a five button mouse where those two side buttons did nothing anyway, but even with a normal mouse, you could have AutoHotKey run this action when you press both mouse buttons at the same time, or whatever you want.
Actually, just about any nice mouse with more than 3 buttons will come with software to configure the buttons. I’m pretty sure mine can set a button to go to my home page or to minimize a window.
No dedicated product, no third-party software, no scripting.
