Apparently one of these Pulselite boxes, which turn standard aircraft landing, taxi and recognition lights into flashing lights could help reduce bird strikes by some 50%. Just retrofit the box to a plane and thereafter it will flash the lights 46 times a minute in a variety of patterns. The result is to increase visibility of said craft to all airborne entities. Which would be useful, no? Around $1395.00 or so. [oh and congrats to the pilot, crew and passengers].
Pulsing the landing lights enhances the aircraft flight path recognition quality and may be utilized any time the pilot desires. By flashing the landing, taxi, and recognition lights approx. 46 times per minute in a variety of patterns, the Pulselite Control Unit creates an illusion of exaggerated motion that other pilots can immediately recognize and avoid.
I think it's kinda interesting how we call it bird strike, when it's the plane that's striking the birds, not the other way around.
Maybe we should update other parts of our vernacular and use phrases like "dog strike" as well.
Apparently K, it's actually an 'engine suck'. :-)
