The Vue Personal Video Network is a ‘peel and stick’ magnetic wireless closed circuit camera system, which is designed to be super easy for mom & pop installations. Plug the gateway device into your broadband router, stick the wireless cameras around the property using the easy to install magnetic mounts, and voila, your own personal security system. Keep tabs on granny’s drinking habits, spy on your sister’s latest allergy, make sure Dad isn’t smoking in the den. Fun eh?
OK, so it’s obviously got more serious uses, and interestingly the camera battery life really seems to be decent. They’re saying 1 year of life per battery at 10 minutes of video streaming a day, which is rather astonishing. The video resolution is nothing to shout about though, at 320×160, 7 fps, which is probably less than your mobile phone captures, and the range from camera to gateway is a max of 300 feet, but still, it’s not bad for a price of $299.99 for a starter kit with 2 cameras (it supports up to 50!). Possibly a little Orwellian for our tastes, but who are we to throw stones (especially if it ends up on film)?
