Leica Disto D8 – laser distance meter

I used to have one of those supercheap ultrasonic tape measures. Might as well have been a random number generator it was so inaccurate, and forget about using it outside. Turns out I should have picked up one of these Leica Disto D8 laser distance meters. It can measure distances from 5cm up to 200 metres with an accuracy of 1 mm. It doesn’t just measure though it can actually do the maths for you.

Measure the width, depth and height of a room and it will calculate the volume. Hold the unit at an angle and measure the distance to the top of a building and using the inbuilt tilt-meter it can tell you how far away the building is and its height.

For long distance work when you can’t see the laser spot, it has Pointfinder, a built-in camera with a 4x optical zoom. This helps you aim the laser spot using the 2.4″ screen. And there’s Bluetooth so you can transfer your precious digits wirelessly. Not cheap though, Ł599

The most versatile laser distance meter in the world! Equipped with a digital Pointfinder, high-resolution 2.4″ colour display, 360° tilt sensor and Bluetooth® technology, the Leica DISTO D8 is a real world first and offers completely new measuring options.
