The Igglu Modular PC – Lets you keep your computer longer

Igglu Modular PC 3

Everyone knows that computers are obsolete almost out of the box. The Igglu Modular PC could change that. UK designer Rob Mansfield’s concept will consist of a single tower with compartments that are color coded to match swappable modules that let you easily update the main parts of your computer. Color coded blocks would fit easily into their matching slot and all parts would be sold in blocks that supposedly would work with your computer. All this reduces the chances of accidents from opening up “the box” and would let you keep your computer longer.

And there are more green aspects to this great idea. The company will have a “take back” program for older components, and there’s a cool pedal-powered generator that comes with the PC that will both reduce your electrical consumption and let you get some exercise too. That way you reduce your carbon footprint and stay fit.

No word when this would hit the market but if the price is right, it could be a great alternative to expensive upgrades.

Inefficient collection and recycling by manufacturers, results in old hardware ending up in landfill and being shipped overseas. People in villages in China and India resort to salvaging materials from the scrap heaps, poisoning themselves and their surroundings with the toxic materials and heavy metals found inside the computer cases.
