This Insignia Infocast 8 Inch Media Display is a Chumby O/S powered web computer which delivers Internet radio, video and music playback, digital photo frame functionality and various fun type applications for download. The Chumby connection means that theoretically it’s open source hackable, not sure how that plays out in real life though.
It features an SVGA touchscreen, 800Mhz processor, 2GB of RAM, WiFi, USB ports, speakers and a natty little desk stand. Despite all this we can’t help thinking that it will probably lose out to the tidal wave of tablet computers eventually. Anyway neat looking box for just $99.99.
This Internet media display features an 8″ touch screen for easy navigation of online content, photos, videos and more. Access Pandora, SHOUTcast Radio, Photobucket, NY Times podcasts and Blue Octy Radio applications without a computer.
zounds, for once, I’ve already got the “whatever it is neat thing on da ‘ferret today”
what’s most interesting to many about chumby things, is that they’re *designed* to be hacker friendly. click a little pi symbol on the info screen, and another screen pops up “do you believe in the users”, offering you the option of turning on SSHD, so you can connect in, and find that it’s nice little linux computer inside, ready to do most anything you want.
I think I like the Chumby One best, but the larger screen on the 8″ infocast is nice, as is the faster processor.
hahahahahahahaha, it really is chumby. More border than screen. Two of them would make good bookends.
