We all love lawyers right? They’re probably second only to bankers, with a reputation for being soft, cuddly, incredibly honest and willing to stick by their principles on every occasion. Wait…what? Why are you laughing? How can you be so callous to such a fine and upstanding profession, shame on you.
Well now you can laugh on the other side of your face, because the new Legal Advice website offers free…yes Martha, FREE…answers to all of your legal questions. Well maybe not all, but a generous proportion. There’s no commitment, no fee, and no small print. Gasp!
In fact, in a move which is either deliberately genius or a massive mistake, if you click on their Terms & Conditions link, all you get is a page full of some totally unreadable Latin mish-mash. So either these guys are supremely confident or they’ve…ahem…got some good lawyers. To use the site, you fill in the question box, select your location (US only at the moment of course) and the type of law, and press the Submit button. Oh and you have to agree to their Latin Ts&Cs by ticking the box.
You can also search their past questions/answers and there’s a Find a Lawyer section on the site to help you locate one near you for those tricky to handle legal issues. We need more of these sites around.
There are plenty similar websites, including http://legalhelp.org and http://legaladvice.org
Ahh, thanks for the heads-up. Very useful.
“Family lawyer” Mark Chinn of chinn and associates ruined my life. And he was supposed to be my own lawyer. Don’t take MY word…Go ahead – give him a try. Good luck!
(& looks just like “Poindexter” – Revenge of the Nerds)
Hate to tell you but the site is pretty clearly a fake.
For example Jaimie Hirsch [http://www.legaladvice.com/attorney/lawyers/Jaimie-Hirsch-84], who is the most active, has an email which doesn't resolve (see http://montroselaw.com/).
The same is true for Sanjay Agrawal [http://www.legaladvice.com/attorney/lawyers/Sanjay-Agrawal-85] (see http://BachuslawGroup.com)
Or Laura Strauss [http://www.legaladvice.com/attorney/lawyers/Laura-Strauss-77] who is apparently a New York lawyer in a law firm in North Carolina. That makes it really hard to practice law.
Or Poornima Dagar [http://www.legaladvice.com/attorney/lawyers/poornima-dagar-108], who apparently has two streets, two states, a practice area of "testing", and who's area code hasn't bee assigned (997 – http://www.wolframalpha.com/entities/area_codes/a…. Not to mention the image of the attorney and the comments all showing up the very same day.
There are also weird pages of comments – see for example http://www.legaladvice.com/questions/ask_legal_qu….
Well that's really strange, because they appear to be giving legitimate legal advice to current questions. See this Q&A here – http://www.legaladvice.com/questions/ask_legal_qu…
Very mysterious. Maybe they're trying to appear more 'established' than they are to encourage users?
