Ever wished you could quickly create one of those cool digital sound effects, like a laser shot or a robot noise? Or perhaps recreate those awesome pixel game sound effects you’d hear on titles like Space Invaders or Pac-Man? Yeah, me too. The idea of having an Asteroids explosion as a ringtone is very appealing to my warped being.
LabChirp is a freeware program which will deliver that power and more. Behind the basic and somewhat old fashioned interface lies the heart of a micro synthesizer with enough juice to produce multiple envelopes, waveforms and vibrato. Oh yeah, gotta love that vibrato. Tweak and twirl until you’re satisfied with the results and then save to a .wav file. There’s even a randomizer function which will create a sound for you if you’re too lazy to do it yourself.
