Pixabay – 65000 free public domain images for free download and use [Freeware]

It’s not hard to love websites which offer free stuff, whether it’s music, software or video. But we have a special place reserved for those intrepid folk who roll up their sleeves and brave the water to offer royalty free public domain images. There are so many competitors, and so many duff photos that it’s not an easy job. Which is why it’s really nice to find a site that does it right.

Pixabay currently has around 65,000 free public domain images on offer for free download, and what’s more the quality is top notch, mostly because they’re hand vetted before being given space on the site.

The site comes with a lovely clean interface and a great search engine, so it’s quick and easy to find your choice of images from the catalog. One small issue we found is you have to be careful because the top line of every page of search results contains professional commercial images from Shutterstock, which although very nice will cost you money.

There’s no unnecessary fluff involved, you can simply choose image orientation and type (e.g. illustration, photo etc) and unlike sites like, you don’t have to worry about choosing the right license, these are all public domain, so download and edit to your heart’s content. This place immediately goes into our list of essential bookmarks. Love it.
