Look we’re all for maximum utilization of our assets and all that, and goodness knows we’re suckers for clever innovative software products, but sometimes lines are crossed and sense seems to fly out of that small window up past the ceiling fan.
One such case must be this tiny Brake Lamp app on the Android market, which is designed to turn your extremely expensive mobile phone into a bicycle rear light. Oh sure, it uses the accelerometer to trigger a stop sign at max brightness when you brake sufficiently hard, but c’mon, really? You’re going to strap this thing to the back of your mudguard with duct tape or sling it from your rucksack in all weathers to ensure you’re not rear-ended by a truck one night?
We refuse to be judgmental about it, but maybe there are better – and more secure – uses for your phone that you can come up with? We’ll give you a few seconds.
Done? Good.
