The Met Police Little Book of Big Scams – how to spot if someone’s trying to take you for a ride [Freeware]

There are quite a few naughty people about, who are anxious to part us from our money as quickly and as illegally as they can. The obvious ones come at you full frontal, while the subtle ones will fleece you swiftly and cleanly without you knowing a thing about it. Fraudsters like this are everywhere, so it’s good to see that the Met Police (aka in polite society as London’s Finest) has produced a 36 page ebook outlining some very useful tips to avoid being taken for a ride.

The Little Book of Big Scams ebook starts with the age old phrase – ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is‘ and works its way from there to offer advice on almost all of the known scams of the moment. These range from door to door scams, to psychic and dating ones, with lots of tips to help you avoid being a victim.

The cynical amongst us will probably sneer and talk about suckers, but the fact is that ordinary people fall for this stuff every day, because let’s face it, the whole point of a con-man is to appear genuine. So the best of them work their scams to perfection.

Of course some of the advice is impossible to follow, simply because the Internet is what it is. Under Handy Hints for example it says ‘Never send money to anyone you don’t know’. Well that rules out eBay, Amazon and the rest then doesn’t it? I guess they mean, never send cash, which is good advice indeed.

Well it’s impossible to cover it all, so we applaud them for at least trying. You can download the free PDF eBook directly from here.
