BlackLight SunCell – could this technology really offer 3000 miles of travel from a liter of water?

The hunt for sustainable cheap alternatives to our decreasing oil reserves continues apace, with everything from Thorium nuclear to more conventional hydrogen fuel cells being researched and developed as we speak. Now a new tech has thrown its hat into the ring, and it looks as though it’s either a very clever scam or a revolution in the making.

The BlackLight SunCell technology uses a combination of water based fuel pellets and a very low voltage, high current power source to generate electricity through light and solar panels. The idea is the water based solid fuel is trickled into a container and subjected to the current, at which point it turns into incredibly brilliant plasma light bursts, which are then captured by solar panels and turned into power.

The New Jersey based company has been holding a series of public demonstrations recently, which appear to show the expected results, with one video delivering power to a set of LED lights on the test rig. According to the founder of the company, Dr R Mills, the trick involves converting the hydrogen in the water into a new entity called a hydrino, which is what delivers the payload in some way. To maintain the process simply add more water. Sounds incredible, no? You can find out more details about the process here.

  • This is a scam. Check out this article rebutting the claims:

    • Oh thanks for that. Sounds like a new Steorn then. Amazing what lengths people will go to in order to grab some attention and/or money, eh?

  • This is fantastic – we’ll finally be able to power the solar roadways! Take that, ya naysayers!

(Sarcasm in case anyone thinks I am serious…)

    • Heh, so cynical for one so young. :)
