Smart homes aren’t that great – find out what it’s like to really live in one

Some people really want to live in a full smart home, some people grimace at the idea. We’re not quite at the point where we have the smart homes promised to us in our science fiction novels but this interesting article from Gizmodo tracks what it is like to live in the smartest of today’s smart home options.

The piece confirms many of the privacy concerns that are basically old news to people who have followed this trend. That’s not what makes this worth reading. The reality of the sheer difficulty and annoyance in living in a smart home makes this a valuable piece on the future of now.

Of course, this is about the smart home of 2018 which is likely going to be very different from the smart home of 2028. Integration will be much better which means dozens of apps will no longer be an issue and with more time, more developers will likely begin relying on a few specific hubs, thus ending compatibility issues. Check out the article to get a good look at the smart home reality of today.
