Protecting the Seas – one small nation has radical plan to weather climate change

Modern problems call for modern solutions and climate change is a modern problem. Some would say the largest of modern problems so figuring out how to survive a world with it calls for drastic changes in how we do things. On Seychelles, a small east African Island, they’ve taken a radical approach.

Fishing is the way of life for the community and yet in order to preserve the sea round their home, they have voluntarily taken six months off from fishing those waters, moving further out during certain times of year. This is just one part of a plan to protect the water that is funded by a debt swap.

Seychelles is not a large nation, they do not have many assets but by working with different funds, they are protect the sea around them to hopefully brave the coming changes in the world. They are the first to do so but other countries are working out their own deals to do similar.
