Is Going Plastic Free Really Best? – some people think not

With many companies moving to remove plastic from their shops and businesses, some groups are concerned that the alternatives may harm the environment, just in different ways. They argue that it’s six in one hand and a half dozen in the other, ditching plastic may just be trading for a less visible problem.

There are concerns in increased shipping emissions from heavier packaging with things like glass. Issues with confusion around what can be recycled and what cannot thanks to new terms and the like. That we’ll waste more food because we won’t be able to seal it. How far will this go??

Although we joke, these concerns do have some validity. The public does need to be educated better on what can be recycled and composted. We do need to have new shipping and storage methods to ensure that we’re not creating more waste. The answer isn’t to just give up though, it is to research these changes and come up with more comprehensive plans to implement them in the most environmentally sound way possible.
