New Fungus Found – on Twitter

There’s been a new type of fungi discovered but not by some scientists tramping through the woods or anything like. This one was discovered on Twitter. The social media site for sending off super short missives about your thoughts and lives has now led to the discovery of a new species.

You can read more about the fungus, including all the scientific details on its new name and habits at the link above. The story though is that a another researcher was sharing the photo of a millipede, where the fungi lives, on Twitter. Another scientist, who specializes in that type of fungus saw it and go curious. Suddenly they’ve discovered a new species.

A random occurrence that just goes to show or world is large and you never know what you’ll find where!
