A tale of two twiddles.

Mmm, what a difference a design team can make. In the blue corner the cool looking new Sony PSP handheld game console – chock full of specs, options and potential. In the red corner we have the frankly very boring and terribly dated looking Nintendo DS handheld, proving once again that retro styling is definitely not ‘in’ at the moment [Eh? -Ed]

The Ferret is convinced that one of the major factors that led to the GameCube struggling against the XBox and PS2 outside Japan is design. While the latter two are chunky, macho solid type boxes, the GC looks like a Fisher Price toy. And that’s before you factor in things like the launch roster of cutesy games like Super Mario. What’s the betting that the DS is going to come up against the same kind of problem now against the Sony design machine? Nintendo had better hope that one of its DS games is a real silver bullet.
