It must be summer, Sea Shepherd are back in the news. The Ady Gil, ex Earthrace, Sea Shepherd’s stealth anti-whaling boat was involved in a collision with a Japanese whaling vessel on January the 5th. The result wasn’t good for the 6 person crew or the 13 tonne carbon fibre vessel and 2 days after the collision it sank but not before the fuel and equipment was offloaded. One of the crew sustained some broken ribs.
But it’s all good in the end, Sea Shepherd gets plenty of publicity painting it as the victim, Discovery Channel gets some great footage for the next season and even Ady Gil himself isn’t worried. He’s called up his mates to raise some money for a new boat which they’re hoping will be ready by December. As for who’s at fault, well you can make up your own mind. The only other question left to answer is “Who on earth is Ady Gil?”
*Yes I know I’m late on this, I’ve been elsewhere.
“This is a substantial loss for our organization,” said Captain Watson. “The Ady Gil, the former Earthrace, represents a loss of almost two million dollars. However the loss of a single whale is of more importance to us and we will not lose the Ady Gil in vain. This blow simply strengthens our resolve, it does not weaken our spirit.”
