Amazon launches new e-cargo bike scheme in London to reduce delivery emissions

The mighty Amazon has just announced a new e-cargo delivery service in parts of London, which will replace a portion of their conventional van deliveries. The company has rolled out this initiative as part of a scheme will include deliveries ‘on foot’ as well, and the company hopes this new micromobility scheme will deliver over 5 million packages across East London over the coming year.

Of course Amazon isn’t the first company to start using e-cargo bikes for last mile deliveries. Ocado Zoom, Fed-Ex and Hermes the couriers have all been experimenting with various shapes and sizes of electric cargo bikes over the past couple of years. Whether they’re providing the kind of service customers demand is something only time will tell. But the bottom line is more bikes, less carbon emissions. Which is a great thing for all us city dwellers. And others.
