Caribou – An Andriod app that unlocks card key locks

Just when you think your private residential pool is safe because of the fancy card key they gave you at the desk, the Caribou app comes along to crash your pool parties. Thats right, the Android has gone super spy with an app that can hack basic card key systems. All you need is the IP address and you have 30 seconds to get in. Any doors that you open will re-close after the time limit is up, but half a minute is quite a bit of time if youre moving quickly.

Ive got to admit, this is really creepy. Surely when the app was created it was meant for good, though there is a lot of harm that can come from this. Especially from people who can further the hack to more advanced security systems. Being able to get in a building via phone is very James Bond, but its still a little serial killer-esque. Thankfully obtaining the IP address of a lock will hopefully prove enough of a deterrent for most people, as they aren’t exactly written down on the door.
