AOC U2790PQU Review

My biggest issue with the AOC monitors is the name. This one’s called the AOC U2790PQU monitor. A very difficult name to remember and also difficult to market I think, but hey that’s my biggest issue on this monitor, so that means a lot I think.

This is a 4K panel that comes in around 299£. It’s high end, but for the price you get a lot of value. The 27 inch IPS panel delivers great colour, nice blacks and a beautiful image at 5ms response time. it has 10 bit colour depth and this is mainly used for productivity, so no real gaming. The refresh rate is 60Hz and is has a nice design.

The stand is circular and elegant with a slim. bezel on the screen. The looks are aluminium, but the build is plastic. Overall the design of this screen is very nice, modern and sleek.

There are again various ways to tilt, swivel or bend the screen as we’re used to from AOC. There’s one button on the back, which I almost forgot about when I wanted to turn on the screen, and that’s a power on or off switch. To access the setting of the screen, there’s a mini joystick which you can use to fiddle around with the settings. As per usual there are different settings to change, like colours, brightness or shadows and all that. I just put it on standard.

The monitor has two HDMI ports, a 1.2 Display Port and two USB 3.0 ports. There’s no USB-C and that’s maybe the biggest flaw of this screen. It means that you have to connect your Macbook via HDMI or with an adapter.

There’s also no HDR, which means less high dynamic range when you want to edit pictures for example, however, you won’t find any monitors for this price and quality in 4K with HDR as well.

Overall the AOC U2790PQU is a great monitor for the price. The specs, design and colour are very good. The only thing I’m missing is the HDR and the USB C-port. This monitor is perfect for editors or even watching movies. For gaming I would advise an other monitor with a higher refresh rate.
