Arcade Coffee Table – browse, play, listen

Surfacetensionarcadetables

The Surface Tension Arcade Coffee Table buries an Intel Pentium Dual Core powered, 160 GB, WiFi, LCD computer into a glass topped coffee table. They then throw in a bunch of retro games for Windows XP, plus a Firefox browser and iTunes support and hope that you won’t notice the £3295.00 price list. Now where’s that laptop and sheet of smoked glass from the garage?

The new ‘surface tension’ coffee table is the ultimate in modern style and functionality. Beneath its dark mysterious surface is also a retro games platform, jukebox and media centre. Offering users the ability to play popular arcade style games with authentic arcade controls, listen to music using iTunes, display photos and DVDs, browse the internet, watch digital TV channels and of course, it’s also simply a coffee table.

  • Oh wow. That’s SOOO cool! Best yet, you could just build one for yourself! Get all the components, buy a little coffee table from Ikea and get converting! Probably the hardest thing to find would be the little push buttons, but I bet you could set it up with a trackball mouse or something. And a splashproof keyboard for easier surfing, integrated into the delightfully retro control panel.

    I think I’m in love.

  • If it used a Mac it would be able to run OSX , Windows and linux.

  • Orrr… You could install Linux on the PC, and then run Windows and OSX. Funny that there aren’t too many people rushing out to do just that.. just a lot of people with OSX trying to run Windows.

  • Why did they put it in the coffee table I had in 1978? Does it do Pong?

Is it a sort of retro-post-modernist joke?

  • Charlotte – x-Arcade controller. :-)

  • As I understand, it uses XP. Although, if you listen to Charlotte from the first post, you really can build one yourself. And buttons 'n' stuff you need, well, you can find them, one of the stores that sells those can be found <a href = “” target=”_blank”>http://www.arcadetables.com.au/”>here

  • Sorry, I meant here :p
