The Ashampoo Internet Accelerator 2 is a free program designed to speed up your Internet connection. It’s easy to use, and fast, and actually does seem to work. I ran through a quick tweak and reboot and instantly increased my DSL connection by 20%, at least for the download part. Nothing seems to lift my upload speeds beyond a paltry 512kbps. There’s also a manual settings option for the hard core l33t tweakers. Definitely worth a download, although it does ask for a free registration after 10 days in order to activate the full version.
This system means that the program gets the very last drop of performance out of the internet connection. When using a modem and an ISDL connection, the improvements in performance are particularly noticeable – a reason for celebration. With a DSL connection, the tuning result isn’t quite as impressive, as there are fewer things which need adjusting in order to provide an optimisation. Nonetheless, it is still the case here that every percentage of extra performance means better internet surfing.
