Suave Cell Phone Watch – Stylish and still contactable

Wearing this Suave Cell Phone Watch, you can have your geekness and still be chic as well. It’s a quadband GSM phone with a 1.5″ touchscreen and around 80 hours of standby. It’s got Bluetooth, plays jpgs, avi, wav and mp3 files, comes with a 2GB microSD card and a corded headset. Recharge it via the hidden mini USB port but just be careful, it’s not waterproof. Now you can head out on the town without your phone. How novel….

Red Ferret Quick Links

This is a bunch of silly, stupid or just bizarre stuff that we’ve found on our travels about the place. Hopefully it’s just what you need for a leisurely Friday. Lamborgini Murcielago skipping out of a car park by slipping under the toll gate. I guess the money you save can be used to repair the paintwork. Apparently Sea Monkeys love trance music . Maybe it all depends on what you’ve got to live for. Nothing to do on…

Aegis Netdock – Netbook docking station beefs up your netbook

Netbooks suffer for a few drawbacks, not least of which are storage limitations and a missing optical drive. The Aegis NetDock can help out by adding a CD/DVD burner, 4 USB ports (2 are permanently on for charging) and a spot for an easy to access, internal, 2.5″ hard drive. It comes with synchronisation software, burning software and works with Mac or PC. US$89 for the NetDock on its own, or $189 with the 500GB hard drive included. Should be…

SpeedyFox – freeware speeds up your Firefox load time chop chop

SpeedyFox is a small freeware utility that speeds up your Firefox load time by optimizing the profile databases. The devs claim up to 3 times speed increase, and I’ve got to say Firefox certainly seemed a lot faster on boot up when I tried. Or is that a placebo effect? Anyhoo, well worth a try.  It seems unbelievable but after you optimize your Firefox with this tool, you will get a fresh newly-installed feel because the speed indeed gets considerably faster….

Zermatt Summit – humanizing globalization

A press release for something called the Zermatt Summit which landed in my inbox yesterday certainly made me blink. The meeting, which will be held in Switzerland June 3–5th, is aiming to help ‘create a better world’ by seeing how we can make the economy serve the common good, rather than just enrich a few. Hallelujah brother! Sure, the cynics will sneer, the skeptics will mutter darkly about communism and the rest will probably move on quickly to read something more interesting, but…

Laser Level Tape Measure – Straighten up and measure right

You can’t go wrong by adding lasers to things, especially power tools. My circular saw wouldn’t be half as awesome as it is, if it didn’t have a cool aiming laser on it. Even the humble measuring tape can have some pewpew awesomeness if this Laser Level Tape Measure is anything to go by. But the awesomeness doesn’t stop at lasers, it’s got 2 dimensional spirit-levelling things, AND it measures …. stuff. Up to 7.5 metres (25′) of stuff to…

Pet Wheel Away – Keep them dawgies rollin, Rawhide!

The Pet Wheel Away strikes me as a little bizarre, but if you’ve got an old or infirm dog it’s a good way to drag them out shopping or to go see a movie. The bag is on wheels with mesh sides so pup can breathe and it doubles as a backpack, or a cocoon for travelling in cars. Surprisingly the bag will also fit in the overhead locker of an aircraft however your dog probably won’t be in the…

Naughty LG Electronics Caught Doctoring Eco Stats – not so lucky right now…

Pity poor old LG Electronics, caught out in a little eco-scam in Australia. Apparently the naughty company has been tampering with energy efficiency testing of their fridges by installing a sneaky device that trips into a special low-power mode when the ambient temperature is between 22 and 32 degrees and the door hasn’t been opened for some time, which is similar to the sort of conditions you might find in an energy rating test lab. The two products, models L197NFS and P197WFS, actually…
