Avantree Torpedo – Mini Bluetooth Soundbar Speaker is Surprisingly Good [Review]

The Avantree Torpedo is a 0.5kg Bluetooth soundbar speaker which is designed to work with your TV, phone, tablet or any device which needs a boost in sound quality and loudness. It is a little different from other soundbar products because of its size, it really is quite small. Which means producing a big sound could be a challenge. We test it to find out.

First impressions
The product comes in a nice box which contains the necessary cable and user guide you need to get started. The product’s main claim is the ability to produce ‘3D surround sound’, which would be very impressive from a flat speaker format. In fact the sound is actually quite good, as you can see from our test video below.

In use
The wireless range of the speaker is pretty good also. Inside it will reach from room to room, while outside it goes a full 10 meters without problems. The battery life of the rechargeable unit is advertised at six hours, although we only managed to get 4 hours out of it, at decent sound levels. But the unit can be used with a power cable if needed.

So what about the 3D surround sound? Well we thought it was a little weak, more like a booming, hollow sound, but on the other hand the Super Bass mode is actually pretty punchy, which really shows off the power of the twin 5W speakers.

The Avantree Torpedo soundbar speaker is an impressively small and yet effective product. The sound is big enough to fill a normal living room, and we like the fact that the range of the wireless Bluetooth is good enough to cope with a decent distance.

Price: $59.99
