AX10 Scorpion – rock crawling on a smaller scale and budget

Image

For the uninitiated, Rock Crawling is a sport involving high-powered and expensive machinery (usually 4WD vehicles) slowly pushing and pulling themselves up insanely steep hills and boulders. Axial Racing have shrunk rock crawling to 1:10 scale and come up with the AX10 Scorpion, a remote control, scale model of a rock crawling truck. It’s sort of unique in that it’s one of the first dedicated rock crawling R/C kits, all you need to do is build it and add your own motor, electronics and battery.

The model itself is very impressive. It’s articulated in all sorts of directions, it has front/rear differentials, a heavy duty centre diff and huge suspension travel. The chassis itself twists and contorts and is made from tough ABS and machined aluminium struts. Just what you need for getting over 1:10 scale rocks and boxes.

Axial themselves have a whole range of stuff to go with it, including modifications, petrol motors, tune-up equipment, tools and the like as well as instructions for building your own rock crawling track and getting ready for competitions. There are two other models as well, almost ready to run straight out of the box and not requiring as much assembly as the Scorpion.

The Axial AX10 Scorpion 1:10 R/C Rock Crawler Kit (4WD Electric) is the first of its kind. The kit was designed from the ground up, and every detail was thought through to provide a competition level base kit to work with. Previously the only way to build a competition capable rock crawler was to buy bits and pieces of several different kits here’n’there. This long and sometimes frustrating process would take as long as several months just to get the right parts together before you could even start the build. Now you can get everything in one box, and within a matter of a few hours build-time you’ll be able to hit the rocks with your competition ready AX10 Scorpion Rock Crawler!
