Basis – more high tech on your wrist than the original moon lander

There are fitness tools and then there are fitness tools, know what I mean? Scales, weights, stop-watches…these are all tools to help you stay fit and healthy, but they don’t really get down to the hard core of our basic physical makeup, because they can’t. Athletes and sports stars on the other hand have the benefit of a huge array of very expensive equipment to check on every aspect of their health and physique, and now this kind of technology is filtering out to we mere mortals.

The new Basis system is based around a watch. But it’s no ordinary watch. Embedded in the back of the device are a set of sensors which continually measure heart rate, movement, perspiration and skin temperature throughout the day and night. The data from these sensors is then collated on an online dashboard to deliver a full graph of how you’re doing each day in terms of calorific burn, physical exercise, and good healthy stuff like that.

The product also tracks sleep patterns and helps you find patterns which are best for your lifestyle and needs. The core component of this digital fitness trainer is the dashboard system which delivers a constant stream of suggestions and tasks for you to complete in order to make you a better person. Or rather a fitter person.

Now we’re not averse to a bit of nagging now and then, but we have the feeling that eventually we’d get a bit ticked off being told when to go take a run, just because our watch felt it was the best time. Demeaning right?

Anyhoo, you can purchase your very own fitness nag for $199.00 and you too will be able to enjoy a bit of silicon telling you how to live your life. Meanwhile we’re just popping out for a donut break.
