Can your phone’s battery keep a charge for 15 years?

How long does your phone stay charged? Depending on how I use it, I can get through a couple of days without having to plug mine in. Even if I just leave it on standby and don’t make calls or check emails, it’s likely not going to last more than a week. This isn’t an issue when you have access to power outlets on a regular basis, however, you run into problems if you don’t have this luxury. Wouldn’t it be great if your phone could last for 15 years on a single battery?

Maybe you’re on an extended hiking trip, or perhaps you’re in a 3rd world country doing volunteer work. In either situation, you might not have regular access to a reliable source of power. Sure, you can get solar or wind chargers, but those might be better used for powering lights. Whatever the case, this SpareOne phone will make sure that you never worry about a dead cell phone. This very basic dual band GSM phone is designed for emergencies and special situations, rather than everyday use. The 15 year battery life might seem a bit misleading, as that’s how long the charge will be maintained while the device is powered off. However, you can still get up to 10 hours of talk time on that same AA battery. The nice thing here is that it’s not difficult to pack a few spare batteries, as they are small, and can be found very easily. The SpareOne goes on sale later this year for a price of $50.
