Carbon Offset for Flights – most airlines don’t offer them

If you want to lower your carbon footprint, one of the things that is often suggested is to travel by air less. After all, air travel releases a good deal of carbon. There’s another way, carbon offset programs. Too bad less than half of the major airlines even offer that option.

Carbon offset programs are pretty simple. Passengers pay an additional cost which is donated to organizations that fight climate change. The money could go to planting trees, building and installing solar panels, and other green initiatives.

Most airlines don’t offer these benefits however and for the ones that do, people don’t seem keen on paying for them. Still, people have to travel and paying for the carbon footprint they cause to be reduced is a worthy investment. If your airline does not offer it, there are plenty of private options available. Maybe earmark some money for one in your next travel plans?
