Long time readers will know that way back in Nov 2003 we launched a section of the site which listed a large number of sources of free and totally legal music tracks you could download and keep. The fact is that streaming music is all well and good, but there’s nothing to beat creating your own collection of great music on your device, which you can listen to anytime and anywhere, without having to rely on an Internet connection.

Giflike – awesome new service lets you create instant animated clips from YouTube

Sometimes a whole video is overkill, when all you need is a short clip of something. And it’s not just for LOLcats or other silliness either. Extracting a clip of a video can be very useful to demonstrate something, or teach and explain, and even to learn how something works in detail. The trouble is it’s not that easy to create short clips from full videos, unless you use complicated GIF tools.

Announcing the Hubski Comments WordPress Plugin – a cool way to bring the thoughtful web to your blog [Freeware]

We reviewed the rather fine Hubski.com social community a while back, and if you remember we were rather impressed by the quality of the interaction and content of this new online community. Kind of like Reddit without the LOLCATS. Well it appears we liked the site too much, because no sooner had we finished writing about it, than we found ourselves at the center of some sort of plot to destabilize civilization.

And the sad part is a vast proportion of these incidents of blindness could be avoided with the use of some basic eye care. Of course the real problem is that most of this happens in low-income countries, which makes it difficult for healthcare officials to facilitate the necessary eye examinations which are a step towards saving and restoring lost eyesight.

Neocities – yay…Geocities is back and it wants you to enjoy yourself all over again

Remember Geocities? That brash, vulgar, messy glorious website building community that defied all the odds to become one of the biggest web services of its time? We loved it. There’s something comforting about playing with wet sand. It reminds you of being at the beach, and not having to worry about schedules, work, or responsibilities.
