Google Helpouts – awesome new service offers real help from real people in real time via video

The mighty Google has just released a new service called Google Helpouts, which offers a live video service which anyone can use to learn about, or get help on, various issues, topics and problems. The idea is brilliantly logical, because it combines the kind of How-To loveliness of YouTube with the classroom feel of Khan Academy, but at the same time because it’s live, you get the personal ‘being there‘ touch.

Volafile – insane, addictive, anarchic real time chat and file sharing explodes onto the eyeballs

We’ve been around the block for a while, so we’re not easily surprised. Really. But very occasionally something pops up on the radar which rocks the shocks. The new Volafile service is one of those. Think of a combination of IRC, Chatroulette, Mega anonymous file sharing and throw a gratuitous MP3 radio station into the mix and you’re kind of close.

HOSPI-R Drug Delivery Robot – Is a bedside manner programmed in?

The hardest working people in the hospital are the nurses, who are constantly delivering meds, updating charts, talking with hospital visitors, assisting doctors, and giving shots, along with a ton more of work that gets done behind the scenes. I get tired just from thinking about. However, one of those previously mentioned duties might get passed down to the newest member of the medical team.

There are some games that just grab you by the throat the minute you start them up, and 4 hours later you realize it’s time to hit the sack because the sun is almost coming up. LucidPress – superb new free collaborative web based layout and design application does it all

We first reported on Lucid Software three years ago and even then we marked out the company and its approach as something special. “All in all this is one superb drawing and charting app, and deserves to carve a significant chunk out of the market.” Well fast forward to today and they’ve gone and done it again, with another superb web application which fills a real need and competes aggressively against an expensive big league incumbent.
