Tiger Stone Road Maker – bricks in one end, road out the other…

This Tiger-Stone Road Maker machine is really rather clever. You shove a bunch of bricks into one end and behold, a road emerges from the other end, just like laying a carpet. It’s jolly clever Dutch, can lay 300 sq metres of roadway a day and comes in a tasteful shade of orange. Priced at between €60,000 and €80,000 depending on configuration. Extended video footage –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAXcqO_zJgk  What can the Tiger-Stone do for you? * Better working conditions. * Motivated and enthusiastic staff….

Actroid-F – the world’s first true Android (and we don’t mean phone)

The Actroid-F android from Japan has just been introduced to the world, and what an introduction. The only thing I could think while watching the video (below) was “wow, just imagine what will happen when Apple gets into robotics”. Designed to be used in hospitals, the eerily lifelike robot can mimic a host of human expressions and movements, and at times is uncannily humanoid.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFVlzUAZkHY  …designed to be used in hospitals and other locations involving natural human-to-human communication, and can…

JetCat P-120 Jet Turbine – the DIY solution for when thrust is a priority

There will be times in your life when you need to attach a beefy jet turbine onto something you own, and for those times you should probably consider a product called the JetCat P-120 Jet Turbine from JetUSA. It will set you back around $3,395.00 plus shipping, and you’ll need to buy all the control gear too, but just look what you can achieve with a slightly bigger version and a vanilla motor scooter. Don’t try this at home kids!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ9O5ki4VaQ  Through careful…

Laser Audio Surveillance System – play like a pro without all the Tom Cruise nonsense

This Laser Audio Surveillance kit is your pukka, honest to goodness, listen at the window ’cause we’re spies, type surveillance equipment. Shine the infrared beam at the glass and you’ll be able to eavesdrop on the conversation within from 500 metres away. The price of…cough…£21,150.00 includes training. In Germany.  The system allows the operator to carry out an undetectable laser surveillance operation from outside of the building up to a distance of 500 metres (Sometimes more subject to operating conditions)….

Aspex Electron Microscope – send in your samples for electron scanning

The good folk at Aspex, purveyors of fine desktop electron microscopes, invite you to send in any item for electron scanning…free of charge. Sure it’s a clever marketing ploy, but fun eh? Not quite sure how they got the cat through the post (or indeed under the scanner), but we’ll leave that for PETA to work out.  Do you have a sample you’d like to send us to have scanned by one of our Scanning Electron Microscopes or our Tabletop…

Panasonic Hair Washing Robot – wash and rinse gets the C-3P0 treatment

Presenting the Panasonic Hair Washing Robot. Yes, one day you too could lie back and have your hair lovingly washed and rinsed by a portable metal machine with 16 ‘fingers’ which scan the head and apply ‘just the right amount of pressure‘ as they tease your scalp. Not only will it give you a luxurious head massage and wash, but it can remember your head for future visits and go straight to work. To be honest, we’ll be impressed when…

EvestG – the diagnostic machine for mental problems

The EvestG medical diagnostic system from Australia has just won a major inventors award and continues to move towards commercial reality. The system, which measures nerve activity via the ear/balance mechanism, is apparently able to map and identify the brain patterns relating to a range of mental illnesses, such as clinical depression, Parkinson’s and such. Once the mapping for a particular condition has been done, it can be used to detect nascent conditions, or for monitoring the efficacy of treatment. It’s like having a…

DELL Inspiron Duo hybrid tablet netbook computer – have it all ways

The info trickling out about the new DELL Inspiron Duo tablet/netbook hybrid looks rather interesting. Windows 7 powered, dual core Atom processor (i.e. fast) and a very clever swivelling 10.1 inch screen. Despite our continued meh-ness about tablet computing for serious work, we’re thinking this could offer the best of both worlds, especially if the battery life is good and the performance matches. Check out the video.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi_st9XMaqw Tags: tablet, netbook, windows, dell+inspiron+duo

Nokia World 2010 – still playing catch up, but at least they’re now running in the right direction!

I’ve been covering Nokia since the early days…the launch of the original 9000 Communicator, the seminal Nokia 7650 in 2001 (yep the first ever camera phone) and the original 6210, probably the most memorable mobile handset ever made in terms of functionality, robustness and popularity. We’ve watched the company go from bemused surprise at their insanely rapid rise to dominance, to arrogance as they stagnated at the top of their market, through to defensiveness, first evidenced six years ago as the company ran afoul…

Fancy yourself as a bit of a search engine queen? Then you’ll need one of these Google Mini Next Generation boxes. Denmark’s Net-Zero-Energy Home – our homes may have a future as power generators

The Danish Net-Zero-Energy Home shown above may look ordinary but it could transform the way we live in our cheap energy restricted future. The house uses a truck load of high technology allied to cost effective materials like wood to deliver a building that generates more power than it consumes. As you’d expect the building is beautifully designed in that typical Nordic simple style, but alongside the traditional fixtures and fittings you’ll find extensive installations of photovoltaic solar panels, heat pumps, triple…

HT CD100 USD Euro Detector – the ultimate dodgy note detector

The HT CD-100 USD Euro Detector is a counterfeit note detector. But it’s not one of these mamby pamby shine a light things, oh no. This puppy detects paper thickness, density, printing ink and where the note went to school before giving the all clear. Green light good, red light bad. We’re talking 100% detection rate of fake Euros and Dollars here, fruits. Rather worrying to read, therefore, that it will not detect the North Korean ‘super fake US dollar’. Hmm……
