Climate change is a big deal for our food supply. Many of the strains of food producing plants we rely on to feed vast amounts of people simply don’t have what it takes to survive the rising temperatures, including wheat. There’s some good news though, scientist have found that some strands of wild wheat have beneficial mutations that make give them an edge when it comes to change.

The study spanned 28 years and looked at a wild strands of wheat. In that time, mutations were observed that allowed the plant to survive about 2 degrees of clime change which is in line with the limit of change the Paris Climate Agreement is pushing for.

Although not every plant survived, enough did to be promising. These findings could go a long way to making our own crops more resistant the changing weather.
