Climate Visuals – this website is putting a human face on climate change

Climate change is a big deal but we have a hard time visualizing it. When we think of climate change most of probably think of polar bears and industrial smoke stacks but it turns out those images don’t really connect well and turn into action. Climate Visuals is a library of images that capture climate change in a way that we can understand and prompt people to engage.

Instead of concepts that people can understand intellectually but don’t really connect with emotionally, the website promotes images that follow their seven principles. Show local impact, real people, telling new stories, show the causes at scale, are some of these factors.

This means that instead of icecaps, they share images of homes underwater, for example. We know what houses are, we know how devastating it would be to lose one’s home. These are concepts that people can easily grab on to. The website is free and images can be used in a variety of ways. Check out the site for more info.
