Colonizing Mars – switching planets isn’t a solution to the climate crisis

There’s been a lot of talk from certain sectors about colonizing Mars in the future and as awesome as that sounds, there are a lot of reasons that it probably won’t work out. Which is to say, sorry, we won’t be able to to just get a new planet because we’ve run this one through the ringer. Check out this article for a pretty comprehensive overview of why.

Any movement in the sector of moving planets is likely going to take a good deal of time to even get to the point where anyone can live there but one thing to consider is that Mars isn’t really as friendly to human life as movies and pulp science fiction would have you think.

It’s very cold, the gravity is not great for us, and the terrain is rough. It would take quite a bit of technology to make it so humans can successful survive there for an extended period of time. So instead of dreaming of space travel, might make a bit more sense to focus or efforts on setting things back to right on good old Earth.
