Cone – the thinking music player

You know what? Sometimes we’re not at all interested in what something does, because it looks so great, we don’t care. Shallow isn’t it? We should be more intellectually rigorous we know, but it’s hard. Especially when shiny is involved.

The Aether Cone is a classic case. Just look at it. Gleaming like that. Copper burnished glory all blushed and coy. What? Oh yeah sorry, it’s an Internet radio. No wait, come back. It’s an ‘intelligent‘ Internet radio. What that means is, it plays music from online service like Rdio and Stitcher and learns what you like from how much you play or don’t play something.

In other words it learns from your listening habits, and rather like an attentive butler, delivers exactly what you want to hear, immediately you turn it on. At least that’s the theory. We’re a little confused as to how it’s going to differentiate between your different moods on different days, but we’re willing to suspend disbelief until that gorgeous coppery bottom hits the desks sometime later this summer. Oh yeah, and it’ll cost us all $399 to find out.
