Consume Less for Emissions Goals – how we shop and eat matters

Changing over to electric cars and renewable energy sources are great ways to battle climate change but they’re not all we need to do to make a difference. According to Prof Sir Ian Boyd, chief environment scientist for the UK, you’ve gotta consume way less stuff.

Fast fashion, non-local foodstuffs, toys, etc. All of these things contribute to the problem and not just in the pollution they create at the end of their short lives. Manufacturing and shipping these items creates a great deal of waste and emissions.

While we’re focused on big items, Boyd urges the government and the people to take steps in working in smaller, more tangible ways to reduce waste and emission causing practices. This is to meet emission goals by 2050. If things continue as they are, there’s no way to meet those goals but switching to consuming less across the board can really go a long way to help. Think abut the next time you’re out shopping.
