The key to a more sustainable future isn’t just in producing less waste, it’s finding ways to use the waste so that we do create, preferably by transforming it into new products that we can utilize. Engineers have discovered a way to give new life to waste carbon dioxide.
Converting carbon dioxide waste is not a new process. That being said, it is an expensive and complicated one which means it is not widely used, despite it’s benefits. The new process is much cheaper and easier meaning it can likely be scaled up to industrial use.
The process uses a very hot, open flame that creates zinc oxide that can be used to convert the CO2. Once this is done it can be used to make new materials closing the loop. If this is successfully adapted, it can help take us all one step closer to a greener future.
