Go on admit it, you’ve always wanted to control your smartphone through the use of a Dick Tracy style watch on your wrist, haven’t you? After all, it’s so so boring to have to dig the phone out of your pocket or bag when it rings or chimes, so why couldn’t things be easier? Well fear not, happy occupant of planet earth, for we may have an answer for you.
The Cookoo Watch is part watch, part phone, part cyborg death robot. Well OK that last part we made up, but the rest is just about right. This surprisingly analogue (!) wristwatch contains a Bluetooth chipset which pairs up with your cell phone to deliver alerts whenever you receive email, FB notifications, SMS messages, calls and alarms etc. It even lets you know if you’ve left your phone behind on the table. Ooops!
Surprisingly enough, the thing doesn’t actually look that bad on the wrist, as long as you’re one of those ‘chunky’ wrist types. We suspect delicate arms may cease to function after half an hour of strapping one on, but hey, what do we know? One thing we do like is the fact that it uses standard watch batteries, so if it runs out of juice, you can just pop the back open and drop in another CR2032 cell and you’re good to go. No hunting for a recharge socket.
It’s waterproof to 50 meters, comes with its own phone app and can also control your phone’s camera and music player. And you thought watches were just for telling the time? Pah! The product is currently on pre-order at £109.95 / €127.39.
