Crowdshipping – forget expensive couriers, let the crowd help you out instead

So you’ve got some stuff that you ordered that needs a way to get to you and shipping is not available or just really, really expensive. Or perhaps you’re going someplace and you’ve got some room for more stuff. Don’t let that extra space go to waste, you can turn it into money. Or if you need something delivered, you can send it with someone who is already going the right way. Here are three websites that hook senders/receivers up with travelers to help things get from point A to point B.

1. Nimber

The person who needs something shipped posts what they need and then travelers bid on it. The sender/receiver can look at multiple offers with different time tables and pick the one that works best for them. It can be used for a variety of things from large scale furniture to pets.

2. PiggyBee

This site has been around since 2012. It has sort of the same bidding situation as Nimber but it has the travelers input their information and autosends you the options available for you. This site also allows you to pay in trade with rewards (such as a ride home from the airport). If you have something small, like a painting or piece of jewelry, this may be a good option to get it home.

3. Shipizy

Like the last two, this site takes information from both parties to facilitate a match. This site also has an option for escrow if you need the traveler to purchase something this way you can get what you need and no one gets ripped off.

  • There’s also

    • Thanks for the letting us know! :)

  • There’s also us – – mobile app for iphone / android. Focused between U.S. and China right now. More guaranteed and more features than Piggybee.

  • So what happens when you are stopped at the airport/train/bus station and the ‘jewelery box’ contains drugs? You are infact, just a drugs mule but without the advantage of being paid. Go to jail. Go straight to jail, do not collect £200 for passing go.

    • Um… I would think that one of the first things you would do is check to see if there’s anything in the package that could be dodgy. Or contain anything dodgy. And if you are at all suspicious, don’t take it. Obviously these rules apply more when you’re carrying something from a known drug country – like say Columbia – to UK/USA or whatever. If you’re asked to take something from New York to Medelin, probably not so suspicious. Maybe?? :)
