No matter how much technological progress we enjoy, there’s always a group who prefer to keep things real, and maintain things the way they used to be. So for instance, we still have our vinyl lovers, and those who prefer a good radio play to a night out at the nearest IMAX. Hardly surprising then that email and snail mail might get together too one day.

The new Dear Inbox service promises to let you deliver a greeting card by the postal service, just by using your normal web browser and email client. The free plugin, which fits into Google Chrome browser – no Firefox? boo! -so you can just click on the New Card button and compose a card which will be sent off to your recipient with a stamp attached and everything within 48 hours.

You can send birthday, holiday, thank you and other cards with the system and you get a preview of the finished result before you press ‘send’. The trick is the software uses handwriting simulation software to actually make the finished result look like you lovingly hand wrote it. Sneaky is not the word! To use the service you’ll need to spend $2.49 a card, which includes the postage and production. Perfect for the permanently lazy.
