DPX Drill Powered Bike – for an instant electric bike, just add your cordless drill

dpxdrillpoweredbike

Electric powered vehicles are becoming more and more popular nowadays, especially with companies such as General Motors and Tesla pulling out the stops to create innovative and exciting products. But for every Chevy Volt or S Sedan that comes out, there’s also a need for something a bit simpler, which will do the job without all the expense and complexity.

Which is where the DPX Drill Powered Bike comes into action. This clever little tool is an aluminum based mini bike which features dual disc brakes, front and rear suspension and a special bracket which will accept any cordless drill as a power plant.

Simply slot in your choice of 18 or 36 volt drill, and off you go. The thing will carry a 250 lb rider, and gets up to a speed of around 15 mph, which is not bad considering. A fully charged drill should deliver around 20 minutes of riding time, which is not a huge range, but considering the size of the average drill battery is reasonable. The bike itself weighs 33 lbs and is available for a price of $849.00 (without the drill).

  • Novelty aside, you can get a 1000 watt scooter that goes 28mph (for riders under 175lb) with a longer range and folds up for less than $500 shipped. If this sold for less than 1/2 as much it may be a reasonable conversation piece for a child in the family but for $849….Ha.
