We all use search engines, in fact “Google” can be used as a verb now. It’s the fastest way to find out information. Now you can use your web searches to find new recipes and save the Earth. Ecosia is the search engine that plants a tree every time you look something up.
The website works in conjunction with WeForest, a nonprofit focused on rebuilding the green areas of the world so every time you search for something, no matter what it is, they’ll plant a tree. The more you search, the more trees they plant. A simple way to help the world out. They generate income with the search ads and then that money goes towards the planting of a new tree.
The site lets you know how many trees you’ve helped plant with your searches. You can use it straight from the browser or you can download the Chrome extension so that you can use it every time you browse. It spits out the same results as the Google search but it doesn’t know you so it’s not ordered by relevance to your life. But it will let you view the results that Google would hand over. Ecosia is free.
