Element Four WaterMill – fresh water from fresh air

The WaterMill from Element Four promises to deliver 12 litres of clean, clear water to your thirsty person every single day, all taken out of thin air. So yes it’s a dehumidifier in disguise, but one that sits outside your house gulping down smoggy stuff and turning it into H20. And yes, the water is sterilized, purified, filtered and pummelled to within an inch of its life before it reaches your pristine lips, so fear not dear consumer. Around $1200 (and $0.3c per litre). [Via]

The system draws in moist, outside air through an air filter. The moist air passes over a cooling element, condensing the moist air into water droplets. This water is then collected, passed through a specialized carbon filter and is then exposed to an ultraviolet sterilizer, eliminating bacteria. The result? You have taken control of your family’s drinking water needs.

  • a cheaper version of this that DOESN'T purify, sterilise, etc. would be great for watering the garden!

    • A dehumidifier perhaps? :-)

  • I can't even begin to think how much it would cost me to sit a dehumidifier outside.
Actually, that said what would the running costs of something like this be?? Good for the environment on one hand, but oh so very bad on t'other… (?)
