ETCH Clock – the clock where the time looks carved into the face

When was the last time you looked a clock? Most of us keep time with our smartphones because they’re easy and always at hand but they fail at being decorative, our smartphones, not actual clocks as the ETCH Clock proves. This clock looks as if the time is carved right into the face.

Although it would be fun if this clock featured little cavemen etching out the time as the minutes change, but that’s not what’s happening here. This clock’s face is covered with an elastic membrane that transforms as the minutes pass. The resulting timepiece looks like it’s been carved in front of the face.

It works with an app that allows you to sync the time up with your phone (so your smartphone isn’t completely useless). As pretty as this clock is, it’s not likely to everyone’s cup of tea. As cool as it looks, the cost of this artistic timekeeper is a huge turn off. If you’re interested, the ETCH Clock is available for 1,400 CHF (about $1,376).
